SolidXperts’ X-mas Card Designed on SOLIDWORKS Visualize by McGill University Intern

The SolidXperts teams are always happy to welcome new interns to the company. Over time, it has become a SolidXperts tradition to task these newest team members with designing the annual Christmas card with the help of Visualize, a SOLIDWORKS solution.

Sent to our dedicated clients, each year’s card has a link that connects it to the previous year, adopting a specific element and transferring it. For example, the rendered train tracks and miniature train from one card will make an appearance on the next year’s card.

See if you can find all the links between the 2010 and 2013 SolidXperts Christmas cards!

This continuous network of imagery is a celebration catered to collectors and devoted customers. Assigning the Christmas card to interns acts as a rite of passage that not only offers a great opportunity for young interns and employees to get involved in older SolidXperts traditions, but also serves as an effective introduction to the professional 3D modeling world.

For the last 15 years, customized 3D rendered Christmas cards have been a standing ritual at SolidXperts. They deliver a new and interesting concept every holiday, showing off the immense capabilities of the Visualize add-in within SOLIDWORKS. Visualize allows you to leverage 3D CAD data, from images to animations, interactive web content, and immersive virtual reality, to create photo-quality content in the fastest and easiest way possible. Seeing the improvements within the program throughout the years encourages designers and clients alike to continue using and perfecting their abilities with Visualize.

Luca Zarow is the lucky intern this year, helping to model parts for the Christmas card. He is a project designer and programmer specializing in video games who co-developed a 3D implementation of the board game, Settlers of Catan. Luca has taken introductory courses for Visualize here at SolidXperts to prepare him to design this greatly anticipated Christmas card. Familiar with the creation of 3D models, Luca has already designed a wreath, a boxed gift, a stocking, and a flying drone for the 2018 Christmas card. Every individually rendered object is applied to a virtual environment, emphasizing the importance of shadows and highlights to convey realism. Luca will be staying with SolidXperts for the next few weeks before the start of his school semester. Look forward to the debut of our 2018 Christmas card and see if you can find the link from last year!
