3Dconnexion’s SpaceMouse Pro 3D mouse has received a red dot award: product design 2013, one of the largest and most prestigious design contests in the world. The SpaceMouse Pro, 3Dconnexion’s newest 3D mouse, impressed the 37-strong jury, which reviewed more than 4,500 products in 19 categories.
May 7, 2013 — Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced the acquisition of SIMPOE, a leader in plastic injection molding simulation. The acquisition of SIMPOE, based in Torcy, France, expands Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and SolidWorks applications to create the most powerful portfolio of materials-intensive manufacturing simulation solutions on the market. With more than 3,000 active users working for major part designers, producers, and mold makers, companies such as Canon and Panasonic rely on SIMPOE for its leading plastic injection simulation solutions. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
For a few years now we have offered users who possess a SolidWorks Certification the option to be listed in an online directory. At SolidWorks World 2013 in Orlando we announced some new functionality that would allow users who choose to be listed in the directory the additional option to also list their LinkedIn Account. The University of Michigan owns a Handyscan 3D, which is made available to its research staff for various projects. In their own words, “this method of scanning is perfect for not only capturing an object’s basic form but also the details of its surface, since the laser is often of very high accuracy”.
We’ve all been there. Your manager or customer has been looking at 3D images of your latest product design for months on your computer. But when the first prototype is put on the table in front of them, they say something like “Are you sure that’s the right size, because it looked smaller on the computer screen.” And since you’re on the verge of releasing the design to tooling, you mentally scramble to figure out a way to avoid redoing several weeks worth of work.
SolidWorks World 2013 is firing on all cylinders with Dassualt Systems launching a new site to kick off the user event, My.SolidWorks. It integrates the Netvibes (content curation) and Exalead (search functionality) that Dassault systems acquired over the years. This is the first we’re seeing it pushed out on a more community level, especially on the SolidWorks side of the street.
