TERREBONNE, June 4th – Olivier Bédard has won 3 victories in as many races in Formula 1600 at the Calabogie circuit in Ontario on June 1st and 2nd.
At the wheel of the Exclusive Autosport #90 car, the Terrebonne driver had a perfect weekend by taking the pole position 3 times and crossing the checkered flag first 3 times.
The pilots used the 2 tracks of the circuit at Calabogie. Olivier Bédard had to manage the wear of his tires, since they were used for the 3 races. The Calabogie circuit has the reputation of wearing through them quickly.
“It was a mission accomplished this weekend. The 3 races were contested under different conditions. The second race was driven in the rain, which is a different challenge. In the 3rd event, I managed to create a small lead. Subsequently, it was less important to preserve the tires because the weekend was over. We still wanted to avoid losing the performance of the tires and losing the lead.” – Olivier Bédard
The 3 wins of Olivier Bédard’s weekend in Calabogie are in addition to the 3 victories won at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, May 11th and 12th, in the Ontario Formula 1600 championship. With 6 wins in 6 races, Bédard leads the Formula 1600 Toyo Tires championship with 180 points, giving him a 65-point lead over Zachary Vanier.
Olivier Bédard would like to thank his sponsors Groupe Touchette and Ici Pneu.
Victory in the Micra
In the first race in the Nissan Micra Cup on the same circuit, June 1st, Olivier Bédard, with the SolidXperts #1 car, set the fastest time in qualifying. During the race, he flew over the track at Calabogie, securing his 3rd victory in 3 races in the series. “The race started well, and we managed to get a good lead. It was kind of a scenario like last year, where we managed to build a lead and then it was just to keep that lead and preserve the tires for the next day. The settings were wonderful on the car.” – Olivier Bédard
After the race, the officials accused Bédard of having accelerated too much during a restart at the end of a neutralization. They imposed a 30-second penalty on the three-time Nissan Micra Cup champion, knocking Bedard down to 12th. To protest this decision, the SolidXperts team decided to withdraw from the second race of the weekend.
“I realized this weekend that it was time for me to reconsider my future in the Nissan Micra Cup Series. The SolidXperts team and I are in discussions and we will keep everyone informed. I will focus on my season in Formula 1600 and other future possibilities in the meantime. I would like to thank all SolidXperts members who have proven to be the best team. In addition, I would like to thank Nissan Canada for their involvement in racing. Having the opportunity to work with them over the past five years has been a pleasure. I learned a lot from everyone I worked with.” -Olivier Bédard
